Microsoft has released Windows 11 Preview Cumulative Update 22H2 KB5017389 with 30 fixes or improvements.

This Windows 11 update is part of Microsoft’s September 2022 Monthly “C” Update, allowing users to try out the next patches coming in Patch Tuesday October 2022.

As preview updates do not contain security fixes, they are optional and will not be installed automatically.

Windows users can install the KB5017389 update by going to Settingsclicking on Windows Update, and selecting ‘Check for updates.’

As this is an optional update, you will be prompted to click the download and install button before Windows 11 installs the update.

Windows 11 users can also manually download and install the KB5017389 update from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

What’s new in Windows 11 KB5017389

This cumulative update is the first servicing release for Windows 11 22H2 since its release. published earlier this month. After installing the update, Windows 11 build number will change to 22621.608.

The Windows 11 Cumulative Update KB5017389 preview includes 30 improvements or fixes, of which the eight highlighted are listed below:

  • Addresses issues that cause Microsoft Store updates to fail.

  • Updates the start date of DST in Chile. It will start on September 11, 2022 instead of September 4, 2022.

  • Fixes an issue that affects the font of three Chinese characters. When you bold these characters, the width size is incorrect.

  • Fixes an issue that forces IE mode tabs to reload in a session.

  • Fixes an issue that successfully opens a browser window in IE mode to view a PDF file. Later, browsing to another site in IE mode in the same window fails.

  • Adds more dynamic Widgets content to your taskbar with a notification badge. When you open the Widgets table, a banner appears at the top of the table. It provides more information about what triggered the notification badge.

  • Fixes an issue that affects Dual SIM calls. If you select no sim on your phone and make a call on your device, the Dual SIM feature does not work.

  • Addresses an issue that affects some apps that have not been signed by the Microsoft Store. You must reinstall them after upgrading the operating system.

Although Microsoft says there are no known issues with this update, there are a few protective blocks currently preventing devices from upgrading to Windows 11 22H2.

These safety wedges are intended for devices use of certain types of printers and for BSOD crashes on devices with Intel Smart Sound Technology (SST) audio drivers.
