Microsoft has fixed a known issue that caused parts of the Task Manager to be unreadable after installing November Preview Update KB5020044 on Windows 11 22H2 systems.

As Redmond explained when confirming the problem Two weeks ago, affected users are seeing some Task Manager UI elements displayed with unexpected colors that make them unreadable.

The bug behind these UI issues has been fixed in Windows 11 KB5021255 cumulative update on Patch Tuesday this month.

“This update fixes a known issue that may affect Task Manager. It may display some user interface (UI) elements in unexpected colors. Some parts of the UI may not be readable”, Microsoft Explain.

“This issue can occur if you have set ‘Choose your mode’ to ‘Custom’ in the Personalization > Colors section of the settings.”

The task manager display bug shouldn’t affect Windows 11 users who have chosen dark or light mode in the Settings app.

Workaround also available for affected users

Microsoft has also provided an interim solution that should help affected Windows 11 22H2 customers who have not yet installed the December 2022 Patch Tuesday updates to mitigate the issue.

The workaround requires affected users to choose Dark or Light for the “Choose your mode” setting.

To do this, they must right-click on the desktop, go to Personalize > Colors, then select “Dark” or “Light” for “Choose your mode”.

This month’s Patch Tuesday updates also fixed an LSASS memory leak issue that caused hangs and reboots on some domain controllers after rolling out last month’s Windows Server updates.

Unfortunately, Microsoft has confirmed that Windows Server updates released on December Patch Tuesday will be raise errors when creating new VMs on some Hyper-V hosts.

However, only Windows Server 2019 and Windows Server 2022 should be impacted after installing the KB5021237 and KB5021249 Patch Tuesday updates.
