Microsoft is investigating and working to resolve an ongoing outage affecting the company’s Outlook webmail service.

Users are reporting issues while sending, receiving, or searching email through

some too report not being able to sign in to, seeing 500 errors when trying to sign in, or having their entire accounts wiped out and not seeing any emails after signing in.

According to information shared via the company’s Microsoft 365 Status Twitter account, Redmond is performing targeted reboots on parts of the infrastructure affected by a recent change.

The outage began around 6:00 UTC on Tuesday and is affecting customers in North America and has spread to other regions around the world due to affected infrastructure.

“Users in other regions beyond North America may experience residual impact due to affected portions of the infrastructure in North America,” Microsoft said. said on its Office service health status page.

“We have started to see a gradual improvement in this issue for users in some of the additional affected regions.

“We continue to perform targeted restart operations on primarily impacted infrastructure in North America to restore service availability.”

Microsoft also said in an update to its services health site that the current Outlook outage is also affecting additional functionality, such as the calendar consumed by other services like the Microsoft Teams communications platform.

Today’s outage follows a five-hour major incident which impacted Azure and Microsoft 365 globally last week and removed several services including Microsoft Teams, Exchange Online and Outlook.

Redmond revealed in a post-incident report, it was caused by a change in the router’s IP address that caused packet forwarding issues between all routers in its wide area network (WAN).
