Twitter bird on the ground

A Twitter outage disconnected many users from the website and prevented them from logging back into the site.

Around 3:45 p.m. ET, Twitter users around the world reported that they were suddenly disconnected from the desktop website, with thousands of issues reported on DownDetector.

When you try to log back into the site, the connections seem to work, but the site redirects you to the logout URL.

This seems to primarily affect Google Chrome and Chromebook users, with my account being logged out of Chrome but not Mozilla Firefox.

After I attempted to log back into Twitter with Google Chrome a second time, the site prompted me for additional information, indicating that the account had unusual activity.

Once I entered this information, I was able to log back into the account.

This doesn’t seem to be the case for others affected by the repeated cycle of logging in and out.

No issues are listed on the status page or Twitter support account, so we’ll probably have to wait for the outage to resolve itself.

This is a developing story.
