Microsoft has addressed a known Windows 11 22H2 issue preventing some apps from installing during Windows provisioning.

This is due to the additional requirement for affected applications to use administrative privileges when deploying through provisioning packages (.PPKG files used by administrators to configure new endpoints without imaging) during the initial Windows setup phase.

“Using provisioning packages on Windows 11, version 22H2 (also known as Windows 11 2022 Update) may not install all expected apps,” the company said. explain in a new Windows Release Health dashboard update.

“The affected apps require elevated privileges to install (must be installed as administrator) and may not have sufficient privileges during provisioning to install.”

This known issue does not affect applications installed during Windows provisioning through Windows Autopilot.

Microsoft is also offering a workaround for affected systems, saying administrators could also deploy any required apps not deployed during the provisioning phase after setup is complete.

The company has resolved the known issue in the KB5022913 2023 February Non-Security Preview Update released on Tuesday.

However, as BleepingComputer first reported, KB5022913 is also causing starting problems on Windows 11 22H2 systems due to compatibility issues with third-party UI customization applications such as ExplorerPatcher and StartAllBack.

Last month, Redmond repaired another known issue breaking provisioning Windows 11 22H2 and leaving some corporate endpoints partially configured and failing to complete the Windows installation process.

The problem was first recognized in October when Microsoft said provisioning packages after rolling out Windows 11 2022 Update might not work as expected and would fail with 0x800700b7 errors.

Over the weekend, Microsoft also fixed a bug leading to Windows 11 22H2 upgrades offered to unsupported PCs and preventing them from completing the installation process.

Windows 11 22H2 was also offered eight months ago for Windows 11 Insiders In the Release Preview channel with ineligible devices.
