Microsoft has confirmed that Windows Update will not offer optional updates in December, with the software giant focusing only on security updates due to the holiday season.

This means that Windows 10 and all supported versions of Windows 11, including Server versions, and even Windows 8, will not receive additional updates this month.

It’s important to understand that this only applies to optional updates, not security patches that were already released on Tuesday. For those unaware, Patch Tuesday is the day the tech giant releases its monthly security patch.

“Due to minimal operations during the upcoming holidays and Western New Year, there will be no non-security preview release for the month of December 2022. There will be a monthly security release ( called version “B”) for December 2022. Normal monthly maintenance for versions B and C will resume in January 2023″, Microsoft said.

Microsoft has mentioned that updates will resume in January, so there won’t be any significant bug fixes in January’s Patch Tuesday update. Indeed, Patch Tuesday includes security patches as well as fixes from previous optional updates.

It’s worth mentioning that optional updates usually mess up the operating system and it’s actually best to avoid such updates if you can.
